Shape Up Your Skin with "Star" Treatment
A 30-something writer gets "the works" from famed skin care guru Maria De Sio. By April Durrett
At age 35 my skin just doesn't look as good as it did in the past. That's why I jumped at the chance to get a treatment from Maria De Sio, skin care consultant to the celebs in Beverly Hills.
Although I'm not a household name, Maria and her staff still gave me the star treatment. (There was an actual star being treated in the room next to me, but that's another story.) Maria's staff carefully explained everything and made sure I was comfortable before progressing to the next step during Maria's signature Echo2 Pure Oxygen Facial. This is one of her most popular treatments because it's so effective. Since my skin is fair and sensitive, Maria gave me a treatment that was delicate but powerful. She applied a gentle exfoliant to prepare my skin for the micro-dermabrasion facial.
Before starting the microdermabrasion, she treated some broken capillaries I had, which are often difficult to get rid of. Four of my broken capillaries were gone just like that!
What made the procedure so sublime was that massage therapist extraordinaire Lynda Croner was actually simultaneously giving me reflexology on my feet. (You can get hand and foot reflexology with many of the treatments.) Both Maria and Lynda were very personable and funny so the time flew by.
Next was the microdermabrasion. Crystal powder was sprayed onto my skin, then the dead cells were vacuumed from my face. Although this might sound scary, it was very gentle. Maria said I'd be a little pink after the treatment, as if I had a wind-burn or sunburn. Then she applied soothing vitamins and minerals directly on my skin. Ahhh! My skin lapped these up. Next my face was hydrated by a combination of 87 vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids mixed with pure oxygen blasted from a tank directly onto my new skin.
As if my skin wasn't already looking much better, I got to experience Maria's new hyperbaric chamber. Oxygen is pumped into the chamber and the air inside is brought down two atmospheric pressures. The pressure in the chamber forces the oxygen into every cell of the body. I was a bit nervous to go into the chamber because it's small and I'm a little claustrophobic, but my worry was pointless. Both Maria and her technician Heidi De Sio carefully explained the chamber, stayed with me to make sure I was comfortable and checked back on me every few minutes. I felt very safe.
After my treatment I felt fabulous. Surprisingly, a few pimples on my bottom had disappeared. (The wonders of oxygen!) When I went to dinner with my friend Bob that night, he commented on how healthy I looked. Two days later I can't help but admire my new skin and marvel at the fact that my broken capillaries are gone.
I like Maria's scientific approach to skin care. Before she became a skin care guru, she spent over 20 years as a medical surgical assistant. Because of her medical background, she had the know-how to develop procedures to help laserbrasion patients pre- and post-surgery. She can help them heal 40 to 50 percent faster than usual using her cutting-edge, soon-to-be-patented MDO2 oxygen system plus ultrasound. Post-surgery clients get special rates at the Marriott Residence Inn, which is next door to Maria's office. They can walk to Maria's for treatment and the hotel can get them food and help take care of them as they heal.
Maria's business offers other services including a hand treatment that hydrates and soften your hands and can lighten age spots. She also associates with prominent professionals. Well-known plastic surgeon Gary M. Tearston, MD, FACS, can administer botox and collagen treatments. She has a hormone specialist Dr. Neal Rouzier and an acupuncturist and anti-aging specialist Dr. Shirley Elzinga and also refers ongoing clients to Dr. Tony Perrone, the nutritionist to the stars.
Forget about lightweight, "fluff" skin care spas. I quickly found out firsthand that when it comes to your skin, there's no substitute for top credentials, experience and technology. I, for one, am a satisfied client, just like the enthusiastic but discreet celeb in the office next to me. Maria De Sio Skin Care is at 1153 S. Beverly Drive, (310) 553-9404.
