Getting Blasted
WITH THE PURE OXYGEN CRYSTAL FACIAL
A reluctant writer takes a chance on the "spray-n-vac" mini-peel — and survives to tell the tale. By Mary Monroe
Let's face it, I'm in denial. About my face, I mean. It's enough trouble keeping maintenance up on the rest of me, without worrying about my skin, too. However, my skin care specialist, Maria De Sio, is more than willing to point out the error of my general neglect and sun-loving ways. Cautiously, I agreed to try her PURE OXYGEN CRYSTAL FACIAL, despite my fears of having my face "sandblasted."
Maria is attracting celebs like Maria Maples, Victor Alfieri ("Franco" from NBC's "Days of our Lives"), and Florence Henderson, among others, with her unique combination of the microdermabrasion or Crystal peel (also called a "Derma-Peel," "Power Peel," or "lunchtime facelift") and the ECHO2 PURE OXYGEN FACIAL, both recently FDA-approved here but used for some time in Europe. The creative mix makes sense: the Crystal peel is an abrasive exfoliation process that removes dead skin cells and retexturizes the skin, while the oxygen facial sprays 100% pure O2 on the skin to replenish and heal it. The oxygen facial is already a hit with skin-conscious clients such as Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford and Kirstie Alley.
Personally, I was cheered by the fact that the Crystal peel is considered an extremely mild process compared to chemical or laser peels — and what could be healthier than an ultra-dose of oxygen? It seemed tailor-made for the health-conscious wimp in need of a little skin rejuvenation.
